Hearing Aid Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (HAAAD)
Program Summary
· HAAAD provides a $500 reimbursement to offset the purchase of a hearing aid, or $1,000 for two hearing aids.
· One reimbursement is allowed per calendar year. If a hearing aid is purchased in a subsequent calendar year, a new HAAAD application is required.
· "Hearing Aid" means a custom-fitted ear-level or body-worn electronic device which enhances communication for the hearing impaired.
· Beneficiaries must be currently enrolled in the Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD) program or Lifeline Utility Assistance (Lifeline) program, or.
· Meet the PAAD and Lifeline eligibility criteria described below.
Program Criteria
If you are currently enrolled in the PAAD or Lifeline program, you must complete a HAAAD application and submit the following documentation:
· A receipt for the purchase of your hearing aid.
· A written statement from your physician attesting to the medical necessity for obtaining a hearing aid.
If you are NOT currently enrolled in the PAAD or Lifeline program, you must complete an NJSave application to verify your age or disability status, residency and annual income. Your income for 2022 must be less than $38,769 if single or less than $45,270 if married.
Other Important Information:
· If you are a Medicaid recipient or have other health insurance coverage or retirement benefits that provide full hearing aid coverage, you are not eligible for HAAAD. If you have only limited or partial coverage, you would be eligible for a supplementary payment.
· Beneficiaries of the Senior Gold Prescription Discount Program are NOT eligible for HAAAD.
